24AUT56 (LL) Local Voices
Local Voices is a bright new initiative in the teaching of history and geography with an emphasis on children's voice/agency and citizenship-education. It would interest principals, teachers and schools who are looking to develop in their children a sense of pride in their locality and to foster school-community links. Through a process of interviewing interesting people from the locality, recording/transcribing the interviews, selecting excerpts from the interviews and taking photographs the children and teachers collect a rich and colourful snapshot-in-time of the recent-history and current-geography of their locality. The material is then formed into the school’s own publication for posterity, celebration and future educational activities.
This FREE webinar with Dr Fintan McCutcheon is a collaboration in partnership between Dublin West Education Support Centre, Blackrock Education Support Centre, Drumcondra Education Support Centre, Kildare Education Support Centre and Laois Education Support Centre, and is suitable for Primary & Post Primary teachers.
