The idea of using “Maths Eyes” as a teaching approach will be explored with specific links to how it is very compatible with many of the aims of the new Primary Maths Curriculum.

This session will be filled with ideas and strategies for implementing this methodology, with practical examples of how to employ this in a typical classroom, the whole school and within the home.

Those in attendance will benefit from ideas on how “Maths Eyes” is playful, open-ended to suit all levels, and rich in opportunities to expose children to the language of maths.

Rory Grant is a 6th class teacher and Assistant Principal II at St. Mura’s NS, Tooban in County Donegal. He successfully introduced the concept of “Maths Eyes” to his school in 2019 and it has now become a central theme in their curriculum. He has a keen interest in the pedagogy of the subject and views the introduction of the new maths curriculum as a brilliant opportunity to spread the message of this teaching approach.
