STEMpathy Workshop 1
STEMpathy: Putting empathy at the heart of Science, Technology and Engineering Education
STEMpathy is a programme for primary schools that teaches children how to apply the principles of design thinking to create solutions for characters living in Dublin in 2100. We explore the Sustainable Development Goals, create a character who has superpowers and challenges, develop empathy through fun exercises, generate lots of ideas, develop our ideas through positive feedback, build a prototype to help demonstrate our idea and then share our work with the whole school community.
STEMpathy was developed as part of our Fiosracht initiative funded by SFI’s Discover programme. TU Dublin Tallaght Campus worked in partnership with schools in Lucan and Tallaght to pilot the programme.
We are now offering a short course for primary level teachers who would like to introduce their students to STEMpathy - a fun, creative, empowering approach to STEM education, which has empathy at its heart.
This is an introductory online workshop that will:
• Introduce you to the method and give you practical examples of how you could implement it in your classroom
• Give you access to the resources you will need to deliver a STEMpathy exercise in your class
• Provide you with examples of student work
