In this face-to-face CPD session, participants will delve into the multifaceted world of "The Merchant of Venice" by exploring key thematic elements and literary techniques employed by Shakespeare. The course content will focus on analysing relationships within the play and examining the complexities and challenges faced by characters. Participants will delve into the dramatic techniques utilised by Shakespeare, including dramatic irony and foreshadowing, to create tension and engage the audience. The session will also critically address Shakespeare's treatment of Jewish characters, particularly in the context of the persecution of Jews during the time the play was written. Additionally, the use of disguise as a dramatic device will be explored, unraveling its significance in character interactions and plot development.
Lastly, participants will investigate the use of effective marking codes, gaining insights into how educators can guide students in deciphering and interpreting Shakespearean texts, fostering a deeper understanding of the nuances embedded in the play.
