23SUM05 STEMpathy - Putting Empathy at the Heart of STEM Education using the Design Thinking Process

STEMpathy is a methodology for delivering STEM projects in the classroom.  It is based upon the Design Thinking process adapted for the primary classroom. This week-long workshop will immerse participants in the STEMpathy process and guide them in the development of their own school plan for implementation of STEMpathy. This course is guided by the STEM Action Plan, LAOS and SSE documents.

During this workshop participants will

-          Work in teams to discuss the challenges we will face in the future

-          Work in teams to understand and use empathy to consider how we can help people who face these challenges

-          Design a character who will face these challenges in Dublin in the future.

-          Work within a team to apply creativity techniques to brainstorm ideas to help their character and expand these ideas with positive feedback from their peers

-          Work together to develop their ideas and develop these ideas using positive feedback

-          Build a prototype and develop this using positive feedback

-          Develop a showcase to disseminate their ideas to their peers and school community

-          Consider how STEMpathy could be applied in their school and develop a draft school implementation plan for STEMpathy
