23AUT43 An Introduction to Teaching Autistic Children: Where to Start; What to prioritise; How to Thrive

23AUT43 An Introduction to Teaching Autistic Children: Where to Start; What to prioritise; How to Thrive

In an information rich age, teachers can sometimes find themselves drowning in an over-abundance of systems and programmes all claiming to be exactly what they’re looking for. The aim of this face-to-face course with Mary McKenna, is to guide teachers in navigating through this sea of confusion towards creating a simple cohesive programme that stays focused on the learning needs of the six individual Autistic children in their class, while also supporting their own development as reflective innovative practitioners in a positive and sustainable way.

Participants of this course will gain an understanding of:

  • Autism;
  • The importance of Differentiation;
  • The importance of the SPHE: Making sense of themselves; others and the world around them;
  • The importance of regulation both sensory and emotional.

This course will take place in Dublin West Education Centre on Wednesdays September 27th, October 4th, October 11th & October 18th.

While this course may be of interest to mainstream teachers, it is designed primarily for teachers teaching in autism classes in primary schools (children aged 3-12 years) and their SET colleagues.
